Description
ALIA’s debut album Where Echoes Bloom combines theremin, kacapi, synthesis and field recordings in a collection of atmospheric compositions informed by Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian musical traditions. Following her collaboration with Nailah Hunter on a cover of Harold Budd’s ‘Pavilion of Dreams’, Alia draws on her background in Arabic music and her studies of the Indonesian zither to create immersive, transportive soundscapes.
Produced entirely at home, the album features processed percussion from Jamal Mohamed alongside recordings gathered from Bali and beyond. Themes of grief, resilience and solidarity run throughout, giving these richly detailed pieces both personal and emotional weight.
