Description
Acid Jazz launches its ‘Jazz Sessions’ series with a landmark release from Steve White, presenting his first album as a leader with the Steve White Trio. Long celebrated for his work with Paul Weller—including his role in The Style Council and contributions to key solo recordings—White has always balanced high-profile projects with a deep commitment to jazz and soul.
Across earlier outfits such as Trio Valore, The Groove Train and the hard bop-focused Jazz Renegades, White built a reputation rooted in groove, feel and musical curiosity. Soul Drums marks his return to Acid Jazz Records and a confident distillation of those influences: cinematic, classic-minded jazz performed with clarity and warmth.
Joined by long-time collaborator Chris Hague, White pays tribute to his jazz foundations while keeping a contemporary edge. Led by ‘Changes’ and featuring a smart reimagining of the Style Council’s ‘My Ever Changing Moods’, the album sets the tone for the ‘Jazz Sessions’ series—timeless, assured and unmistakably modernist.
