Peter Patzer’s Patterns brings together material drawn from a remarkable run of self-released library records made in 1980s Germany. Issued via his own Bremen-based imprint Crea Music, Patzer’s work sits at the intersection of new age, synthwave and functional library composition, balancing melodic warmth with drifting electronics and restrained rhythm programming.

The story behind the music is as unusual as the sound itself. Patzer operated entirely outside the established library system, producing and issuing a small catalogue of albums intended for film, television and audiovisual use. Each release followed the same austere visual template, while the music ranged from kosmische explorations and post-disco touches to more abstract, textural studies.

Compiled by Trunk founder Jonny Trunk, Patterns selects highlights from across those releases, presenting Patzer’s distinctive voice in a concise, accessible form. The result is a quietly immersive collection that captures the exploratory spirit of European library music at a time when synthesisers were opening up entirely new sonic possibilities.
