GANS (Dinked Edition #447)

West Midlands two-piece GANS announce details of the release of their self-titled second album.

Produced by YOUTH at his studio in southern Spain earlier this year and musically revealing a much more expansive sound leaning deeper into a world of electronic music.

Talking about ‘MY GOD IS A STRANGER’, the band explain:

During the writing of the album, we broke up with our partners, so that played a part on the narrative of what it’s about. MY GOD IS A STRANGER is an embodiment of pursuit of an individual trying to find belonging within casual relationships and flings. We’ve always been interested in spirituality and the occult and in the past, we got lost in that world. And that started to filter into the lyrics as we wrote it. A cauldron of casual sex and witchcraft - with us chopping our way through that all trying to figure out meanings in it all as we grow further into our lives.

One of the the most prolific and hard-working live bands out there right now, they are currently about to embark on another headline U.K. run and  having already played near to 200 gigs in 2026 they will shortly be announcing their touring plans for 2027. Meeting at college through a shared love of music, books and art, GANS began an intensive period of writing and rehearsing in late 2023, determined to make uncompromising music on their own terms.

Drawing on everything from big band jazz and country to techno and punk, GANS operate in a genre-free world: noisy, melodic, experimental and always with something to say. Five self-released singles arrived via their own HOT DAWG RECORDS between 2023 and 2024, alongside self-made artwork and videos, building a growing following through radio, streaming playlists and relentless DIY shows.

Their momentum caught the attention of Strap Originals, the independent label founded by Peter Doherty, who signed the band after seeing them perform in a Birmingham vintage clothing store. Debut album GOOD FOR THE SOUL, produced by Ross Orton, followed in September 2025. Four singles landed on BBC 6 Music playlists, including two live sessions, while KEXP, Rolling Stone, Clash and others offered support.

After more than 150 shows in 2025, including tours with The Libertines, Big Special, Ekkstacy and GOAT, GANS have established a reputation as a ferocious live act.

In 2026, the band headed to rural Holland to write before travelling to the Spanish hills near Granada to record with producer Youth. The result is GANS at their most expansive yet: deeper into electronic music, more ambitious in sound, but rooted in the honesty, love and raw energy that has defined them from the start.
