Description
Captured in Chicago in 1967, this previously unreleased live recording presents Terry Callier in raw, intimate form, months before the release of his cult-classic debut The New Folk Sound of Terry Callier. Recorded by Joe Segal at The Earl of Old Town Club, the set finds a young Callier already fully formed — blending folk, soul and jazz with a depth and poise far beyond his years.
Stripped of studio polish, these performances foreground his intricate guitar work and remarkable voice, revealing an artist operating on instinct and conviction. Even at this early stage, Callier’s phrasing and melodic sense feel singular, hinting at the influence he would later exert across soul, folk and beyond.
Unearthed from a private archive, these 1967 tapes offer a rare glimpse of a major talent on the cusp of wider recognition — live, direct and unmistakably his own.
