Natalie Wildgoose divides her time between London and the moors of North Yorkshire, seeking out forgotten pianos in Victorian mills, Grade II-listed village halls and secluded chapels across the Dales. Rather than treating these locations as backdrops, she lets each room determine the character of the music, drawing out tones, resonances and silences unique to the space. The result carries the feel of a rediscovered archive recording: intimate, unhurried and steeped in atmosphere. Wildgoose’s pieces offer a pause from the rush of modern life, foregrounding texture, decay and the subtle imprint of history in every note. By working with instruments rooted in specific communities, she reconnects sound to setting, uncovering traces of the past while creating something quietly contemporary. Her practice is as much about listening as playing — attending to the acoustics of wood, stone and air — and allowing environment and atmosphere to guide the shape of each composition.
